Seminars to Help Women Become Financially Fit

OKLAHOMA CITY — According to WomenTalkMoney.com, a woman who works full-time for 40 years will earn $523,000 less than her male counterpart. Additional statistics on that site indicate women represent 40 percent of the workforce, but only 5 percent of senior executives and that married baby boomer women can expect to outlive their husbands by 15 to 20 years, on average. Findings like these show women are generally behind the eight-ball when it comes to earning, saving and investing.

Local certified public accountants want to help Oklahoma women put together realistic plans for becoming financially strong at the annual women’s financial conferences, Do It Herself: A Journey to Financial Freedom, presented by the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and co-hosted by the Tulsa Chapter of the OSCPA.
The Oklahoma City conference will be Friday, Sept. 30, at the Magnuson Meridian Convention Center (formerly the Clarion Meridian Convention Center). The Tulsa conference will be Friday, Nov. 4, at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills.
Created for women, by women, Do it Herself will include a disaster preparedness session presented by Jessica Hargis, CPA, the vice president and CFO of Tulsa Area United Way and formerly with the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma. Plus, the conference will include perennial favorites on getting out of debt, income taxes, basic budgeting, and more, along with new favorites like raising money-smart kids and relationship finances.

Do It Herself begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Lunch and materials are included. Additionally, door prizes will be awarded. In its continuing partnership with the OSCPA, members of Tinker Federal Credit Union attend for free.

With more than 6,600 members in public practice, industry, government and education, the OSCPA is Oklahoma’s only statewide professional association of CPAs. Since 1918, the organization has continued to provide continuing professional education, conduct quality reviews and promote and maintain high standards of integrity and competence within the accounting profession.
