The U.S. Department of Labor has announced Oklahoma will receive a $6 million green-job grant to train workers in emerging industries such as energy efficiency and renewable energy. The goal is to train 1,000 workers in two years for jobs that pay above the state’s per capita income. Training will be offered across the state, including at TulsaCommunity College, the state’s Career Tech sites and the University of Oklahoma’s Lean and Green Institute. Information about the training in each section will be available throughout the state at Workforce Oklahoma locations. For the grant, Oklahoma will be divided into east, west and central sections that will focus on employer needs in those areas. The project will create a Center of Excellence for Energy Innovation at TulsaCommunity College’s northeast campus to provide state-of-the-art practical applications in building retrofitting and green landscaping. The center will serve as a regional model for sustainability and a resource hub for emerging energy technologies, best practices, innovative curriculum and training opportunities. Article here>>
