Public Meetings will be held on January 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., and January 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sunbeam Family Services facility, 1100 NW 14th (SW corner of Classen & 14th). The building entrance is handicapped accessible.
The City of Oklahoma City Planning Department is hosting two (2) Public Meetings to review current programs and receive citizen input on housing and community development needs and services to be considered for the 2016-17 Action Plan. The Action Plan describes the activities and budgets for the use of certain US Housing and Urban Development (HUD) related program grants. The proposed Plan will be reviewed and approved by the Citizens Committee for Community Development, the Neighborhood Conservation Committee and the City Council prior to submission to HUD.
This will be the second annual Action Plan of the Five-Year Consolidated Plan. To date, HUD has not announced 2016-17 allocation amounts, so the following reflect the current year (2015-16) grants and allocations:
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) $4,321,121
Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) $1,671,854
Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG) $389,641
Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) $530,952
The funding is awarded to the City each year and the amount is calculated by a formula that considers population, poverty rates, housing conditions, and other criteria. The Federal Statutes guiding the use of funds have three primary National Objectives: 1) The provision of decent, safe and sanitary housing; 2) A suitable living environment; and 3) Expanded economic opportunities. HUD guidelines for preparation of the Action Plan are results oriented and activities proposed for funding must help accomplish stated goals and objectives.
