HUD and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have released a Preliminary Determination and Solicitation of Public Comment regarding the Minimum Energy Standards for their financed housing. The determination follows the requirement in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) that HUD and USDA adopt the most recent energy codes while considering housing affordability and availability. The proposed standards aim to improve health and climate resilience for new HUD- and USDA-financed housing, as well as provide significant utility cost savings through new code requirements for homeowners and renters. The public comment period will be open from May 18, 2023, to July 17, 2023. For more information, visit HUD’s Minimum Energy Standards page.
