HUD published an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) that proposes updates to the Section 504 regulation of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibits discrimination based on disability in all HUD-funded programs and activities.
HUD is seeking public comments on potential changes to
how the Section 504 regulation is implemented for recipients of HUD funding, focusing on considerations relating to funding recipients’ obligations. This includes:
- accounting for advances in accessible design,
- using websites and other technology, and
- providing auxiliary aids and services.
- adopting an updated federal accessibility standard to comply with the Section 504 regulation.
All members of the public, including individuals with disabilities, HUD funding recipients, and social service providers, are invited to provide input on the ANPRM by July 24.
