Hey All, if you are responsible for writing grants or collecting data, I encourage you to sign up for one of the workshops listed below. Changes have been made to the way you download and access data.

As of noon today, the April 14th show in Tulsa is filling up. The Stillwater show on March 4th is almost full. The UCO shows on March 15 have lots of space available, not surprising that it is a larger venue. I don’t yet have information on enrollment for the Ponca City event.

Oklahoma Department of Commerce Announces Six Free Workshops on How To Access Census 2010 Results

The Oklahoma Department announces several free workshops designed to help participants find newly released Census information about their community. Attendees will learn how to access information from the 2010 Census, the 2005-2009 American Community Survey, and other US Census Bureau products. Attendees will also receive hands on training in how to use the Census Bureau’s recently updated online data tool, American FactFinder.

“Since December, the US Census Bureau has had at least three major data releases pertaining to Oklahoma,” says Steve Barker, Sr. Research Analyst with the Policy, Research, and Economic Analysis Division of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. “That includes two different sets of data from the American Community Survey and the 2010 Redistricting Data which is based on results from the 2010 Census.”

“Workshop attendees will learn how to access that new data for all of Oklahoma’s counties, incorporated cities and towns, school districts, Tribal areas, census tracts, census block groups and census blocks,” added Mr. Barker.

The proper use of Census data can be a deciding factor for winning a much needed grant proposal, correctly analyzing public planning efforts or launching smart new business expansion drives. Therefore, these workshops have been designed to be most useful for persons who work for state, local and tribal governments, community and economic development organizations, school administrations, non-profits, members of the media, and other similar groups. Attendance is open for anyone interested, but preregistration is required as seating is limited.
