Hand-washing Awareness Week highlights the connection between hand-washing and good heath. Hand-washing is the best way to avoid catching a cold, flu, or other infection. If soap and clean water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub; but if you can wash your hands, follow these simple steps:
• Wet your hands with clean running water (use warm water if available) and apply soap.
• Rub hands together to make a lather and scrub all surfaces for at least 20 seconds (about the time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” two times).
• Rinse hands well under running water.
• Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer. If possible, use your paper towel to turn off the faucet.
