As National Census day fast approaches the U.S. Census Bureau is stepping up its efforts to recruit local residents as official census takers to work on the 2010 Census.
“It’s important for Oklahomans to know that we are indeed testing people for jobs, but that we are also hiring people. We are in a very active mode of both recruiting and hiring, and we’re busy doing both on an ongoing basis until July,” said Dennis Johnson, Regional Director. “We are already hiring people – we do have work for people, and we will have work for people.”
The U.S. Census Bureau is in the process of hiring approximately 5,000 temporary workers in the State of Oklahoma from now until July 2010. This is a great opportunity for retirees, students and anyone who is between jobs or is looking for part time employment. Interested applicants must be 18 years or older, have a valid Social Security number and be available to work 20-40 hours per week. Census jobs offer good pay, flexible hours, and paid training while performing an important public service. Best of all those hired may get to work in their own communities. All census takers must be able to speak English, but there is a need for bilingual speakers also.
Applicants must take a general competency test and undergo a background check. The salary range is from $10 per hour to $14.25 per hour depending on position and location. Interested persons should call 1-866-861-2010 to find out how and where to apply for a job with the 2010 Census.
