Hey everyone, some new federal rules ensure you–the consumer–receive notice with information about your credit report or credit score when you apply for credit through a bank, credit union, or other lender, depending on the circumstances. The specific requirements (rules) are posted on the web at http://bit.ly/ccrules2011.

Do you know your credit score? It’s important because the rates you pay to borrow money/secure credit are based on your credit score.
You can request a free credit report once a year through AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228. You’re entitled to get a free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. You can either space out your requests throughout the year, or request all three reports at once.
